Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre

This odd little museum was started by Mr. Yang Pei Ming as a hobby in 1995. Today it exhibits posters from the Maoist period of communist China, especially from the Cultural Revolution period. The museum is located in the basement and is only two rooms,but houses a rich collection of rare posters.

Long Museum (West Bund)

Founded by Chinese couple collectors, Mr. Liu Yiqian and his wife, Ms. Wang Wei, the Long Museum owns two huge places for exhibition and related functions: Long Museum Pudong and Long Museum West Bund. Located respectively in Pudong New Area and Binjiang, Xuhui District, they constitute a unique ecosystem of art in Shanghai: “One City, Two Museums.” As the largest private institution of collection in China, the Long Museum boasts of the richest collection nationwide.

Shanghai Auto Museum

The Shanghai Auto Museum, China's first dedicated to automobiles, features a display of about 70 classic automobiles and automobile history of both Chinese and foreign car models, including 27 cars representing milestones in automotive development. The Antique Car Pavilion contains 40 cars from 20 different manufacturers dating between 1900 and 1970.

Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts

Modern arts and crafts in the collections of the Shanghai Museum. The varieties exhibited and preserved include velvet embroidery, embroidery, lanterns, dough, paper-cut, jade carving, dental carving, wood carving, lacquering, Inlay, engraving, bamboo carving, porcelain engraving, fine engraving, costumes, knitting, craft painting, etc.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Sculpture Park

This museum is located inside Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and features almost 15,000 items of traditional Chinese medicine from the Stone Age to today. It also has great information about Chinese history of medical education, tools and other achievements.

Shanghai Museum of Animation

This unique museum features a fantastic history of animation beginning with Chinese shadow play to the Disney characters of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck in America. The hall is full of movie posters interspersed with life-size statues and film clips. The second floor is a paradise for kids as well as a commercial area. Popular cartoon dubbing can even be done here.

Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum

This museum is in what was once the Jewish Quarter of Shanghai and includes the Ohel Moshe Synagogue. After the 1937 Battle of Shanghai, Japan occupied the Chinese sections of Shanghai, but this area was still under the control of the European powers and accepted 20,000 European Jews who sought refuge in Shanghai.

My wife and I picked Jenny’s Ultimate Flexible Day Tour..there are about 50 sites one can pick to customise the tour. Ours was a combination of some museums and a visit to Qibao Ancient Watertown as well. Unfortunately being a Monday, most of the Museums were closed but our fearless Guide Celine...
