Itinerary
New Town Hall (Neus Rathaus)
Start your historic tour from a gorgeous neo-gothic building of the New Town Hall. It was constructed between 1867 and 1874 with brick and shell limestone. At present, the building still houses city administration, city council, and the mayor’s office. Admire the 100 meters of a delicate and at the same time fundamental work of art. Hear some interesting facts about one of the most important buildings in the city and what events originated within its walls. You can also climb up the tower to see fascinating views of the roofs of Munich. Down in the vault you can visit a traditional 1867 restaurant. NOTE: Since this tour is private, you can change the sights listed and choose anything you would like to experience.
Nymphenburg Palace
Take your time marveling at the breathtaking baroque architecture of Nymphenburg Palace, the summer residence of Bavarian monarchs. Immerse yourself in the history of Wittelsbach and their five generations of rulers. Being one of the biggest royal palaces in Europe it has a lot to offer, from the exuberant interior to the wonderful landscape around. Learn the story behind the palace’s construction in 1664, about how Prince devoted it to his wife.
Residenz Munchen
The tour will create a vivid tapestry of Bavarian history for you. With the next stop at Munich Residence, you’ll get to know how, starting from 1385, Bavarian dukes and kings were transforming and rebuilding the castle until it became a majestic palace, which we now can see. It also housed former Gestapo headquarters and it is where Hitler joined the Nazi Party. Feel like the history intertwined with the Residence’s walls, mostly demolished during WWII, and reconstructed gradually from 1945. The whole ensemble is now the largest museum in Bavaria.
Odeonsplatz
Take a look at a classic Italian-style square near the Munich Residence, where Hitler’s Beer Hall Putsch culminated in 1923, being blocked by the Bavarian police. Get a glance at the past and what was happening in Munich at those terrible times. The square has traditionally been a significant place for public events, demonstrations, funerals, which was a possible reason for the Nazis to march here. The square is surrounded by Feldherrenhalle, Barocco Theatine Church of St. Kajetan, and the oldest café in Munich. Today the square is a popular meeting place and a site for annual Open-Air Classics Concert.
St. Peter's Church
Head off to the marvelous St. Peter’s Church, one of Munich's major must-see sights, the oldest parish church in the city constructed in the 11th century. The locals tenderly call its 91-meter tower “Old Peter”. It is situated in the city center near the Marienplatz. This landmark will definitely bring history to life as it witnessed so many dramatic episodes of the city’s life. Be entertained with the stories of the initial church architecture, and why it was rebuilt in 1327. The tour delivers the right mood for a devoted history lover and will bring an unforgettable impression of the city.
