THE highlight of Salzburg! Built over 400 years ago, these are the world's best-preserved water features from this era. Experience "up close" how bored prince-archbishops surprised their guests... Open daily from 28 March to 1 November 2021. Ticket prices (2024): € 15.00 per adult, children (4 - 18 years): € 6.50

"Sixteen Going On Seventeen" - this famous movie hit was sung by "Liesl" and "Rolf" in front of the Gazebo in the garden of the "Trapp Villa" (the interior shots were filmed in Hollywood). Today you can admire the Sound of Music Pavilion in the park of Hellbrunn Palace, where it was moved after the filming.

Frohnburg Castle was built in the 17th century and today houses part of the Mozarteum University. SOM relevance: In the film it represents the front of Villa Trapp.

Schloss Leopoldskron

Leopoldskron castle is a former archbishop's summer residence from the 18th century and is now used as a hotel. SOM relevance: The building with its idyllic gardens and terraces on the Leopoldskroner Weiher represents the back of the Trapp-Villa.

Located in the south of the old town, on the historic Nonntaler main street, is the more than 300 year-old Erhard church. SOM relevance: Its Baroque façade and the neighboring house can be seen on a Sound of Music carriage ride.

Stift Nonnberg

Nonnberg Abbey was founded in 712 and is today the world's oldest Christian convent with an uninterrupted tradition. Outdoor shots can be seen at the beginning of the film.

By the end of 1920, the pedestrian bridge opened in 1903 was subject to a toll. Enjoy from the eastern shore one of the most beautiful views of the river Salzach, the old town and the fortress Hohensalzburg. SOM relevance: Or do a little dance here, like Julie Andrews did in the movie Sound of Music!

Mozartplatz

Admire the monument to the most famous son of the city here: the Mozart monument with baroque buildings and alpine peaks in the background is one of the most popular photo opportunities in Salzburg.

Salzburg Cathedral

Sound Of Music relevance: In the pedestrian zones of the old town of Salzburg, some outdoor shots were taken: at Residenzplatz with the "most beautiful baroque fountain north of the Alps" and at the cathedral square. From outside free of charge! (optional): The interior of the Salzburg Cathedral was not visible in the film, but you should not miss a look into the baroque church together with your guide! Admission (2023): € 5.00 per adult

The Kapitelplatz offers great views of the fortress and the cathedral. Thanks to the baroque "Kapitelschwemme", once used as a water trough for horses, one feels transported to Italy! Market stalls in the square offer souvenirs and some sweets. SOM relevance: Julie Andrews can be seen here in one of the scenes.

Fortress Hohensalzburg

(OPTIONAL --> if you have booked the 9.5 hour tour length please note: If you wish to visit this attraction, you may need to make time reductions at other attractions): From the 11th century Hohensalzburg is one of the largest and best preserved fortresses in Europe. If Napoleon had not come, it might never have been conquered. The entrance fee includes the ascent and descent with the funicular, a 30-minute audio guide and access to the spectacular Gothic prince rooms. Also spectacular is the view of the city and mountains. Prices (2024): € 18:00 per adult, children (6 - 14 years): € 6.80

Admission Ticket Not Included

Petersfriedhof

If you look around the beautiful cemetery of the Archabbey of St. Peter (founded around 696), you will notice that the escape scene at the end of the movie was not filmed here (but in the 20th Century-Fox Studios in Hollywood). SOM relevance: However, one of the cemetery chapels was used for an interior shot.

Felsenreitschule

This venue was hewn directly into the Mönchsberg in the late 18th century. It was used as an archiepiscopal summer riding school. With a capacity of 1,437 spectators, it is today one of the most important concert halls in Salzburg. SOM relevance: The famous "Edelweiss-" song was shot here. (optional and only by advance notification): The visit of the interior is only possible as part of a 1-hour guided tour (usually only once a day). Please contact us after your booking if you are interested in such a tour (admission approx. € 10.00 per adult)

This place, named after the famous Salzburg conductor Herbert von Karajan (+1989), is home to another baroque horse-back, and offers great views of the festival houses, the Peterskirche and the fortress. SOM relevance: This square was used for an outdoor shoot.

The Mönchsberg, which can be reached via a 30-second lift ride, offers fantastic views of the old town and fortress all the way to the Alps in the distance. SOM relevance: It was the beginning of the Sound of Music-"Do-Re-Mi-" scene. Prices Mönchsberg lift (2022): € 4.10 per adult, children (6 - 14 years): € 2.00)

Mirabell Palace and Gardens

"Mirabell" means "beautiful view", and hardly any view of the old town and its fortress is more beautiful than this palace from the early 17th century. Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau had it built along with its beautiful gardens for his secret wife Salome Alt as "Schloss Altenau". SOM relevance: Numerous singing and dancing scenes with 'Maria and the Trapp children' were filmed here.

Now we leave the city of Salzburg behind us and travel to one of the most beautiful areas of the Alps: the Salzburg Lake District ("Salzkammergut"). Look forward to an enchanting ride along numerous alpine lakes framed by rugged rock faces and lovely alpine meadows, which you know from aerial photographs from the Sound of Music. The crowning highlight is the Gothic-Baroque St. Michael's Basilica in Mondsee, where the wedding was filmed.

Red Bull Global Headquarters

After just a few minutes' drive, we arrive at the first jewel of this enchanting area: The emerald green lake Fuschlsee, to be seen in aerial shots in the film, which offers excellent opportunities for lunch - not only for fish lovers; but you can also admire the architecturally outstanding building of the 'Red Bull' Headquarters from the outside.

Lake Wolfgang

Look forward to a stop at one of the most magnificent viewpoints of our tour: At our feet is Lake Wolfgangsee, picturesquely surrounded by the spectacular peaks of the Salzburg Lake District ("Salzkammergut"). Afterwards, you can enjoy a short walk along the panoramic promenade in the charming summer resort of St. Gilgen on the western shore of the lake, where also the birthplace of Mozart's mother is located. SOM relevance: Lake Wolfgangsee can be seen in the aerial photographs in the Filmintro.

OPTIONAL --> Please note: The visit of this attraction would be only possible when booking the 11 hour tour length, furthermore, you need to make time reductions at other sights of 2 hours (without cogwheel train ride), and approx. 4.5 hours (including cogwheel train ride!) The crossing by ferry to the tiny town St. Wolfgang with the world famous Inn "Weisses Rössl vom Wolfgangsee" will delight everyone. From here you can reach the valley station of the Schafbergbahn in just a few minutes' walk: Drive like 'Maria and the Trapp children' with the spectacular (steam) cog railway in 35 minutes to the 1,782 meters (5,840 ft.) high prospective mount Schafberg. Prices Boat trip (2024): € 10.60 per adult, children (4 - 14 years): € 5.40 Boat trip plus Cogwheeltrain (2024): € 59.40 per adult, children (4 - 14 years): € 29.70

Admission Ticket Not Included

Mondsee (Pass-by Only)

On the scenic route from Lake Wolfgangsee to Mondsee, we drive along the shore of the lake of the same name, just like 'Maria and the Trapps'.

Basilika St. Michael

The Roman Catholic St. Michael Basilica replaces an earlier building from the early 12th century and fascinates with its gothic-baroque decor. Let yourself also be enchanted by the historic old town of the little town Mondsee! SOM relevance: The famous Sound of Music wedding was filmed here.

Between the sights and during the trips to and from your hotel, you will enjoy the journey in our luxurious minivans with panoramic glass roof, full leather upholstery and all conceivable safety features and receive exciting information from your friendly and professional tour guide.
