The city is divided into three distinct zones: the medieval sector, the 19th-century sector, and the more densely populated post-war area, with its several apartment blocks.

The large castle Forte La Carnale was named from an ancient battle that was fought against the Arabs. The fort is now part of a large sports complex that today is used as a local cultural center.

Alessia was absolutely amazing! We were a little down because it was raining and our boat tour was cancelled due to the weather and we just happened on this tour and my husband and I were so very happy we did! We learned so many interesting things about Salerno and Alessia spoke excellent English...
