Panteon Nacional de los Heroes

House of the Virgin of the Assumption and resting place of several of the most important historical figures of Paraguay. It is an excellent place to have an introduction to the modern history of Paraguay

Casa de la Independencia

In this place the heroes of independence planned the revolution that would give Paraguay its independence from the Spanish Crown. It is one of the few colonial houses that still remain in Asuncion and gives us a view of what Paraguay was like 200 years ago.

Catedral de Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion

The Asunción Cathedral is the most important religious building in the city. Built in the 19th century by the country's first president, it helps us understand the religious spirit of the Paraguayans.

Centro Cultural De La Republica Cabildo

Former Government House of the country, dating from the 19th century. Today it is a cultural center in which you can appreciate art and the history of where we Paraguayans come from.

Congreso Nacional de la Republica de Paraguay

Congress is where Paraguayan legislators work. In this place we talk a little about how democracy in Paraguay works

Palacio de Lopez

The President of the Republic works in this place. In the past this palace was destined to be the house of the second President of Paraguay, Mariscal Lopez. Who was commander of the chief of Paraguay during the devastating War of the Triple Alliance. Remember what Paraguay was like before this war

Manzana de la Rivera

This block is a collection of old houses today converted into a cultural center where we can appreciate the art and history of the city of Asuncion from its beginnings until today.

Costanera de Asuncion

This is the avenue that runs along the bay of Asuncion. Here we appreciate a bit the nature of the bay and talk about Asuncion as a port city

Mathias knows a lot of history and culture. He also speaks great English. We learned a lot from him. On top of that, he is very friendly. He contacted us before us arriving in town.. He also went out of his way to pick us up at our hotel, which made us feel very comfortable while in the city....
